The Red Sox ended the Yankees playoff hopes Sunday night as they completed a four-game sweep behind the bat of Hanley Ramirez. Ramirez hit two home runs in the game, breaking up the shutout with a three-run shot in the fifth inning, and then hitting the eventual game winning in the seventh, a solo shot. For the series he went 9 for 16 with four home runs, nine RBI, and two game winning homers. Ramirez turned himself from being a 2015 lousy signing to a Boston hero, and the Red Sox now lead the Orioles by three games as they head to Baltimore for a four-game series.
The Yankees not only drop to eight back in the AL East race, they drop to four back in the wild card race, with three teams ahead of them that are also trying to catch Toronto. The Yankees still have games against Toronto and Baltimore, so a Wild Card slot is not out of the question, but the road is much tougher now.
