Shaw Saves the Brewers

Milwaukee was headed to its third straight ten inning loss to the Cubs when Ryan Braun doubled in the bottom of the tenth, and Travis Shaw homered to win the game 4-3. It was Shaw’s 31st homer of the season in his best year for power so far. The loss would have lowered the Cubs magic number to four, and two against the Brewers. Milwaukee moves to 4 1/2 games behind the Cubs, five down in the loss column. They are unlikely to catch the Cubs for the division, but they will at least keep pace with the Rockies and Cardinals for a wild card.

For the lack of a few hits, the Brewers might have won the three previous games and be in the driver’s seat in the playoff picture.
