Games of the Day

The Cardinals try to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win as Carlos Martinez takes on an improving Homer Bailey. Despite three walks and 11 strikeouts against the Reds in 11 1/3 innings, Cincinnati managed to score 10 runs in Martinez’s two starts. Bailey’s strikeout rate is working it’s way up. He struck out 16 in 28 2/3 July innings, 24 K in 29 August innings, and 16 K in 17 1/3 September innings.

The battle for the NL Central begins in Milwaukee as the Cubs send Jake Arrieta against Zach Davies. The Brewers need to sweep the four games to take over first place in the NL Central. Arrieta returns from a hamstring injury, and hopes to continue his great second half. He owns a 1.98 ERA since the All-Star break. Davies goes for his 18t win against nine losses. He is 2-2 against the Cubs this season with a 3.98 ERA, walking just three batters in 25 innings, but giving up 26 hits.

Finally, the Rangers go for a sweep of the Mariners with a great pitching match-up as Cole Hamels faces James Paxton. All four Hamels losses came on the road, where his ERA stands at 4.39. Paxton owns a 2.33 ERA at home versus 3.97 on the road, despite allowing six of his seven home runs in Seattle.

Enjoy!
