Yankees Clinch

The Yankees earned at least a wild card berth as they defeated the Blue Jays 5-1 on Saturday. Greg Bird had a big hit, a three-run homer that put the Yankees ahead to stay. Sonny Gray gave up one run in six innings for the win, his fourth with the Yankees.

New York is healthy going into the playoffs. They have Bird, Ellsbury, Holliday, and Castro back, which appears to give them plenty of depth on offense. With those three out, it was too easy to pitch around the top of the order, one reason they lost so many one-run games. Their win total is well below where it should be based on their run difference, which may make them a sleeper team. Healthy, they can compete with any team in the majors.

The bullpen pitched three perfect innings to finish the game, which could make New York tough in the post-season should they get past the wild card game.
