Why Would Anyone Play for the Mets?

Not only are the Mets a walking urgent care clinic, but they don’t tell the manager the extent of player injuries:

The manager of the Mets apparently was the last one to learn the devastating news the Mets’ best hitter revealed.

On Saturday, Mickey Callaway said he was unaware Yoenis Cespedes said Friday night he needs surgery on both his heels and faces an 8-to-10 month rehab. Cespedes said he wasn’t sure about finishing this season, which apparently came as news to his manager, who regarded the issue as soreness.

“That’s concerning,” Callaway said, via MLB.com. “I feel bad for the guy. He has worked so hard. If you see the stuff he has to go through to get back — he worked so hard this winter. We talked about everything that he tried to do to put himself in a good spot to come out and be healthy for the team. I feel for the guy because he’s done everything he possibly can to stay healthy. It’s just not happening for him.”

It is amazing to me that Terry Collins lasted as long as he did, and that Sandy Alderson is still titled as leading the front office. Maybe it’s bad form to fire a person who is out sick, but the organization keeps looking dysfunctional.
