Games of the Day

Chris Sale faces Blaine Hardy as the Red Sox and Tigers play the rubber game of their series. Sale is now second to Justin Verlander in Tom Tango Cy Young Tracker points, mostly due to fewer innings pitched. Sale owns a better strikeout rate, with five more K than Verlander. Hardy owns a 3.71 ERA in eight starts, compared to a 1.69 ERA in 10 relief appearances. He is able to produce a higher K rate as a reliever.

The Nationals use the Saturday postponement to push Gio Gonzalez back a day. Mike Foltynewicz faces Max Scherzer instead. Foltynewicz is coming off two rough starts, with four of his ten home runs allowed coming in those two games. Scherzer had his own problems in July, with five home runs allowed in his last two starts. Despite those troubles, both are 2-1 in the month.

The rubber game of the San Francisco Bay series pits Johnny Cueto of the Giants against Sean Manaea of the Athletics. Cueto makes just his eighth start of the season, and owns a 2.36 ERA in 42 innings. Nine of the 11 runs against him came on the five home runs he allowed. Manaea allowed 18 home runs in 123 2/3 innings, but just 24 walks. That limited the damage of his home runs, as only six of the 18 came with men on base.

Enjoy!
