That Was Fast

The pixels on the last post hardly got their light to Mars before the Manny Machado deal was done:

The Dodgers have completed a much-rumored trade for highly coveted shortstop Manny Machado, acquiring the 26-year-old slugger from the Orioles for five prospects, sources told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal on Wednesday night.

The clubs haven’t confirmed or announced the deal.

In exchange for Machado, Baltimore will receive outfielder Yusniel Diaz, third baseman Rylan Bannon, right-hander Dean Kremer, righty Zach Pop and second baseman Breyvic Valera, according to both Feinsand and Rosenthal. Ranked as Los Angeles’ No. 4 prospect and the No. 84 prospect in the game by MLB Pipeline, Diaz is the most talented player in the group, with Bannon (No. 27) and Kremer (No. 28) also ranked among the club’s Top 30.

Diaz is a 21-year-old outfielder (all ages seasonal) who really upped his OPB after reaching AA. Rylan Bannon is old, 22, for his level of the minors, but he’s tearing them apart with his bat. Kremer has great three-true outcomes, as does Pop. Valera is hardly a prospect at seasonal age 26. The other four are young enough that they have plenty of upside, and old enough that they may be ready for the majors soon. The Orioles certainly restocked their farm system with good players. It’s too bad they could not have done better as a team with a great, young player like Machado under their control.
