Not Such a Done Deal

So it’s been 24 hours since the deal sending Manny Machado to the Dodgers was all but signed, and Machado is still an Oriole:

After weeks of speculation, expectations were that Wednesday would finally be the day the Baltimore Orioles traded shortstop Manny Machado.

Multiple outlets had been reporting that the Los Angeles Dodgers had emerged as the frontrunners for Machado, offering the Orioles a package of prospects headlined by their fourth-best prospect, Yusniel Diaz, with the Milwaukee Brewers and several other teams falling short.

Then came the report Wednesday afternoon from Steve Phillips of MLB Network Radio, stating that the trade was being held up by issues in the physicals of one or more of the Dodgers’ prospects.

I also wonder if the trade was leaked to see if other teams might up their offer if they knew the Dodgers were going to successfully replace Corey Seager for the remainder of the season. An injured prospect should not scuttle the deal, unless it was the main bargaining chip. Stay tuned.
