Twins Rookie Aaron Slegers takes on the Rays and Blake Snell as the Rays go for the three-game sweep. Slegers used the Twins defense well in his first start, allowing just two hits in 6 1/3 innings despite only striking out three batters. Snell failed to improve on his rookie 2016 season. In the same number of starts, 19, he pitched 16 more innings, but struck out 10 fewer batters and allowed seven more home runs.
Sonny Gray face Kevin Gausman as the Yankees and Orioles play the rubber game of their series. The Yankees scored zero or one run in four of Gray’s six starts with the team, which is why Gray is 2-4 despite a 3.16 ERA with the Yankees. Gausman owns an 8.38 ERA against the Yankees this season thank in part to 16 walks issued in 19 1/3 innings.
Gio Gonzalez continues to try to make his Cy Young case against the Marlins and Dillon Peters. Gonzalez is set to go past 180 innings for the first time since 2013. He pitches well in his home town of Miami, allowing one hit in eight innings his last time out. Peters had an outstanding minor league career, 22-13 with a 2.40 ERA. He did a great job of limiting home runs.
