Two teams battling for an AL Wild Card slot face off in Texas as Luis Severino of the Yankees takes on Andrew Cashner of the Rangers. Severino is just over 200 strikeouts (201) in just 169 1/3 innings. He is about even in strikeouts home and road, but only six of his 19 home runs came away from Yankee Stadium. Cashner only struck out 74 in 139 2/3 innings, the second lowest K rate in the majors this season. His success comes from keeping the ball in the park, with just 12 home runs allowed, and it would appear the Rangers play sparkling defense behind him.
Milwaukee tries to take a second game from the Cubs as Chase Anderson faces Mike Montgomery. The Cubs pounded Anderson so far this year, with 14 hits, three home runs, and four walks in nine innings. The Brewers returned the favor with Montgomery, with 14 hits and 10 walks in 11 1/3 innings, but just one home run.
The Rays try to stay relevant to the AL Wild Card race as they send Matt Andriese against Chris Sale. Andriese missed most of the second half of the season with injuries. He’s allowed 12 home runs in just 69 innings. Sale has had his ups and downs lately with a 4.57 ERA since the start of August. His strikeouts remain high, but batters are finding ways to homer against Sale.
