Games of the Day

I just want to note that both Mike Montgomery and Jordan Montgomery are on the same rotation, as are Sonny Gray and Jon Gray. We can only hope this eventually leads to a really confusing day where both Montgomerys face a Gray. Of course, with Doug Fister and David Price both on the Red Sox, the long awaited Price-Fister pairing will not happen any time soon.

Jordan Montgomery takes on Jose Berrios as the Yankees and Twins play the rubber game of their series. After an excellent June, Montgomery owns a 5.27 ERA in July, thanks in part to four home runs allowed in 13 2/3 innings. Berrios is a typical Twins pitcher in that he walks very few batters, but unlike others of the past 15 years, he strikes out a good many batters as well.

The Rays own the third best record in the American League as they face Oakland, holding the second worst. Jake Faria takes on Sonny Gray. Faria is off to a great career start, 4-0 with a 2.00 ERA in seven starts. The Rays are 6-1 in those games. Opponents are 4 for 27 against him with runners in scoring position. Gray owns good three-true outcome numbers, but opponents are hitting .288 against him with runners in scoring position, compared to a .227 overall BA allowed.

After a tiring night, and a very tiring post break for the Red Sox, the series with the Blue Jays continues with Aaron Sanchez facing Drew Pomeranz. In his three starts on the road, Sanchez owns a 1.89 ERA, thanks to just one home run allowed in 19 innings. He allowed five home runs in 13 innings at home. Pomeranz is 4-1 with a 3.20 ERA since June 1, allowing just four home runs in 45 innings pitched.

Enjoy!
