New Snake

The Diamondbacks completed a deal with the Detroit Tigers:

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired outfielder J.D. Martinez from the Detroit Tigers for three prospects.

The Tigers will receive infield prospects Dawel Lugo, Sergio Alcantara and Jose King from Arizona. Lugo was the fourth-ranked prospect in the Diamondbacks’ system, according to MLB.com.

Martinez has an interesting history. He was a mediocre hitter with the Astros, who released him after his third season. He then joined the Tigers and his numbers exploded. He’s good enough to bring three prospects.

As for the prospects, most of Lugo’s offensive value comes from his batting average. He’ll need to be a pretty good fielder to stick in the majors. Alcantara is just seasonal age 20, and so far his strength is getting on base, but he has no power. King is only 18. All three of these players are middle infielder, but I would bet that King, due to his young age, has the highest upside.
