Sonny Gray face Kevin Gausman as the Yankees and Orioles play the rubber game of their series. The Yankees scored zero or one run in four of Gray’s six starts with the team, which is why Gray is 2-4 despite a 3.16 ERA with the Yankees. Gausman owns an 8.38 ERA against the Yankees this season thank in part to 16 walks issued in 19 1/3 innings.
The Twins and the Royals start a four-game series important to the AL Wild Card race, and it might also be the slugfest of the day. Kyle Gibson takes on Sam Gaviglio. Gibson allowed 52 extra base hits in 517 opposition at bats this season, good for a .478 slugging percentage. Gaviglio allowed 15 home runs in 62 1/3 rookie innings. Add 15 other extra base hits and opponents are slugging .532 against him. The Royals would be served well by taking three out of four from the Twins, while the Twins could knock KC out of the race by taking three of four themselves.
Finally, the Rockies try to take advantage of the Dodgers offensive slump as they send Jon Gray against Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers are 1-11 in their last 12 games, their only win came in Kershaw’s return from the disabled list, a 1-0 victory. The scored just 27 runs in those 11 games, scoring 0 or 1 run six times. The team is hitting just .195/.261/.306 during the stretch. If the Dodger owned a normal big lead for this time of the season, we would be talking about an epic collapse right now. While it still could happen, blowing a 21 game would similar to the 1968 long jump in terms of destroying a record.
Enjoy!
