Manny Machado hit in all eleven games the Orioles played, tie for the longest current hitting streak with Carlos Gonzalez. Both have 18 hits and four home runs. The Orioles moved Machado to the top of the order in 2015, but with Joey Rickard doing okay as a lead-off hitter, Buck Showalter dropped Machado to second. That’s a great place for the third baseman given his power.
Machado is the third member of the Trout-Harper superstar generation. Like Harper, he is seasonal age 23. His offense developed a bit more slowly than the other two, but he always played outstanding defense. With 35 home runs last season, he is developing quite nicely two years before he reaches his prime. Over the next six seasons, it may be difficult to determine which of these three is the best player of his generation.
Then again, by the time they reach their primes, Carlos Correa might be the best in the business.
