The Twins and the Braves both won games Friday night, breaking the two nine game losing streaks to start the season. Both teams need some late inning heroics to accomplish the task. The Braves tailed 3-0 in the seventh when they got to Miami starter Wei-Yin Chen. He gave up three straight hits, including a double to Adonis Garcia, and the Braves scored twice in the inning. In the eighth, Garcia was the hero again. After Nick Markakis tied the game with a single, Garcia singled in two more runs to give the Braves the lead. Atlanta wins their first game 6-4. I knew having an Adonis would come in handy.
A friend of mine erases with WIN from the Twins logo yesterday, and that seemed to do the trick as the Twins beat the Angels 5-4 at Target Field. The game was scoreless through five, the Angels scoring the first run in the top of the sixth. The Twins came back in the bottom of the inning as back-to-back double by Miguel Sano and Trevor Plouffe each drove in a run. The Angels answered with three runs in the top of the seventh, including an Albert Pujols solo home run, his first of the year. The Twins tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, then Byung-Ho Park doubled in Plouffe in the eighth for the win.
The zeros are gone. All teams have at least one loss and at least one win. Now we get to see how good or bad each team can be. Streaks always look better or worse at the start of the season.
