Castro-ated

The Red Sox beat the Yankees 5-4 Friday night on an Aroldis Chapman walk off walk. I hate walk off walks. I’d rather the pitcher throw a mediocre fastball down the middle of the plate, because the odds are much better of that turning into an out.

The Yankees are now 7-19 in their last 26 games. They really seem to miss the offense of Starlin Castro. He last played on June 26. Through that date, the Yankees offense produced a .270/.346/.461 slash line. Since then, .222/.325/.375. They are drawing a lot of walks without producing the hits to drive those base runners home. Castro is a bit of a hacker, which is what the Yankees need in some of those runners on base situations.

The Yankees are 41-32 when Castro plays in a game, 4-10 when he doesn’t. His injury coinciding with Matt Holliday‘s illness didn’t help, but the Yankees are 37-32 with Holliday, 8-10 when he doesn’t play.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox appear to have solidified the rotation, and they might be set to pull away from the division.
