SoCal Solos

The Los Angeles Dodgers launched another barrage of solo home runs Tuesday night, beating the Pirates 8-3. The Dodgers hit five home runs off Ivan Nova, and six in total. Four of those were solo shots. The Dodgers have now hit 122 home runs this season, 84 of them for one run. Their 68.9% solos is the highest in the National League and third in the majors. The Angels lead the majors with 71.3% of their home runs resulting in one run, with the Orioles in between at 69.7%. That makes sense for Baltimore, since they have a major league low .290 OBP. The Angels OBP is .316, just below the MLB average of .317. The Dodgers are at .325.

The Reds are at the other end of the scale, with only 45 of their 92 home runs for one run. They’ve averaged 1.8 runs per home run, and are the only team with more multi-run homers than solo homers.
