Stop Complaining

I have to say I’m amazed at how many people announcing major league games are complaining about the direction of the game. They complain about launch angles, spin rates, not moving runners, etc. Do they realize they sound just like the announcers in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s that complained that today’s players just don’t know the fundamentals? They don’t need to say fundamentals anymore since they can direct their ire at the front offices, but it’s the same thing.

The game is always evolving. Pitchers will get ahead of hitters, then things turn around and nobody can pitch anymore. People don’t play little ball anymore because everyone is so strong they don’t need to bunt to reach base. Nobody is a control artist anymore because everyone can blow a fastball by a hitter. The small players today hit for power! They don’t need to bunt like Phil Rizzuto.

Appreciate the way the game is played. Yes, there may be problems, but there have always been problems, and they seem to work out. The game was never better than it is today, and that has been true through the history of the game.
