Shortstop Injury Update

Dansby Swanson of the Braves suffered ligament damage in his left hand:

Swanson, who underwent an MRI in Atlanta on Wednesday, will undergo daily treatment for the remainder of the regular season and will be re-evaluated next week prior to the National League Division Series, which begins Oct. 4.

He left Tuesday’s 7-3 victory against the New York Mets with what the team described as left hand soreness. He missed 13 games earlier in the season with left wrist inflammation.

Swanson is not a great hitter, but has a good glove.

Meanwhile, Didi Gregorius should return:

Gregorius was cleared for baseball activities after seeing a doctor Wednesday. He hit in the cage, took grounders and made throws at shortstop at Tropicana Field before the Yankees played the Rays. and has been cleared for baseball activities.

“Like I have been saying, it was not something crazy,’’ Gregorius said. “Everybody plays through everything.’’

We will see how much it hurts hit hitting and throwing.
