Astros Win the West

I was short of time this morning, but congratulations to the Astros on their second consecutive AL West title. The Astros and Cubs set the standard for tearing a club down and rebuilding to a championship. The trick will be to keep it going, as the Braves did in the 1990s, so that the team is never so far from being good.

Some clubs do a good job of this. The Cardinals always seem to have good pitchers coming up through their system. The Nationals may lose Bryce Harper, but they have Juan Soto and Victor Robles to take his place. It can be done. The Yankees built a great farm system without tanking. It can be done. Both the Astros and Cubs are young enough that they should have their core in place for a number of years. We’ll see what happens after that.
