Triple Crown Watch

J.D. Martinez narrowed the gap in the AL Batting race Thursday night, going three for three to raise his batting average to .331, while Mookie Betts went 0 for 4 to lower his BA to .334. Martinez how has a probability of 0.35 of winning the batting race. Martinez and Khris Davis did not homer, nor did they drive in runs. The calculated probability of Martinez at least tying for the home run lead is now 0.176, while his simulated probability of at least tying for the RBI title is at .965. His simulated probability of at least tying for the RBI and HR crowns is 0.231. Putting that all together, the probability of Martinez winning the triple crown is between 0.059 and 0.081. That’s a nice improvement, and much more in the realm of possibility.
