Weekly Look at Offense

Through 25 full weeks of the season, runs per game remains lower in 2018 than in 2017 through the same period. This season comes in at 8.89 runs per game compared to 9.30 one year ago. That gap narrowed a bit as the 2018 week 25 proved to be the highest scoring of the last four years at 8.97 runs per game.

The difference is due to the lack of hits. There have been over 500 fewer home runs, down 0.3 per game, and 0.3 fewer other hits as well. That’s probably due to a combination of 0.4 more Ks per game, effective shifts, a less springy ball, and even the opener strategy. We’ll see how offense adjusts to this next year.
