The Mets head to Cleveland as Bartolo Colon faces Cody Anderson. Colon started his career nearly 20 years ago in Cleveland, and played their most of six seasons. His strikeout and walk rates were both high young, but in his latter years he developed into an extreme control pitcher. Anderson turned in a good rookie year. Despite not striking out many batters, he held the opposition to a low number of hits.
Chris Sale and Jake Odorizzi square off as the White Sox visit the Rays. Sale a left-hander, is dominating right-handed batters early in 2016. He is holding them to a .227/.277/.409 slash line. Odorizzi is showing great control so far, walking two and striking out 14 in 11 2/3 innings.
Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw meet again in one of the great ace rivalries of the decade. The two combined for two walks and 13 strikeouts in their first meeting of the year, but neither gained a decision.
Finally, two former Royals pitchers clash in San Diego as Zack Grienke faces James Shields. Greinke is off to a poor start for the Diamondbacks, walking batters at over twice the rate of last year and allowing a .348 BA. Shields has not been helped by PETCO park with a .453 slugging percentage allowed both home and away since joining the Padres.
