The Astros took advantage of some wildness from Dellin Betances, Yankees defensive mistakes, and aggressive base running to beat New York in their season opener 5-3. Betances walked two in the eighth inning and committed an error, the first walk followed by a stolen base that allowed Jose Altuve to score on the error. Another stolen base and a walk to Colby Rasmus set up a Luis Valbuena single. Rasmus tried to score on the two out hit, and the throw got by the catcher.
The inning could have gone differently. Carlos Correa was originally called out on the second steal, but replay overturned the call. A good throw gets Rasmus. Keeping the pressure on the Yankees worked this time, and it shows the team had good judgement on when and where to press the opponent.
