The Tampa Bay Rays released James Loney Sunday, today, just hours before the first game:
The club announced the move Sunday, hours before starting the season against the Toronto Blue Jays. He had been told last week that he would not be on the opening day roster. He has a guaranteed $8 million salary.
Loney never really hit like a first baseman, and had his weakest season at the plate in 2015. I’m not surprised by the move.
