Stroman Efficient

Marcus Stroman pitches into the ninth, but gives up a home run and single to end his complete game bid. Roberto Osuna comes on to allow the base runner to score, but the Blue Jays beat the Rays 5-3.

Stroman seemed to be channeling Greg Maddux today. He kept the ball low in the strike zone (until the home run), getting batters to chase early, and winding up with 98 pitches thrown, only 24 for balls. He walked one and struck out five, and is charged with the three runs. An impressive start.

The Rays pitchers combined to strike out 16 Blue Jays batters. According to the Rays broadcast, that ties an opening day record.
