Take a look at this video montage of Bryce Harper first 100 home runs. Watching his pull home runs especially, Harper seems to launch these balls at a high angle.
The other day I saw a chart at Tom Tango’s site that showed linear weights by launch angle and exit velocity. Given this data, it strikes me that Harper hits balls at a higher angle than the cluster of home runs we see on the chart. When the ball is hit at too high an angle, it doesn’t have enough velocity on the X axis to carry out of the park. I suspect Harper compensates for that by hitting the ball very hard.
If anyone has the exit angles for Harper’s home runs, I’d be interested in knowing the range.
