The 2016 gets off to a successful start for the Chicago Cubs as they defeat the Angels 9-0. Bill James once noted that great teams win big; over the course of the season, they are going to generate a huge surplus in runs scored over runs allowed. They are going to win lots of blowouts.
The Cubs dominated the Angels. They out-hit them 11 to 3, out walked them 7 to 1, collected four extra-base hits to the Angels one. Kyle Schwarber was the only starter who did not reach base, but his defensive replacement, Matt Szczur, drove in three runs with a double.
One game does not mean a lot, but the Cubs should have a number of these big wins this season.
