The Dodgers threw their second shutout of the season, beating the Padres 3-0 Tuesday night. Scott Kazmir threw six easy innings, allowing one hit while striking out five on just 75 pitches.
The Padres offense generated just six hits in two games while striking out 21 times in their first two games. They drew two walks and hit one double, so their .129 OBP is higher than their .117 slugging percentage. Their 6 for 39 when putting the ball in play works out to a .154 BABIP. One would think with normal luck on batted balls they would have closer to 11 hits.
It’s a small sample size against good pitchers in a tough park. The NL West if full of the first and the Padres play a majority of their games in the second. If the talent level of the batters in terms of BABIP is low, they are in for an awful season.
