Jose Ramirez came into his own in 2016 at seasonal age 23. He hit .300 for the first time at the major league level after struggling for two seasons. His slash line came in at .312/.363/.462. His power came from 46 of his 60 extra-base hits going for doubles. In 2017, continued doubling, batting .318/.374/.583, upping his doubles to 56 and adding 29 home runs. This season, he already blew past his walk and home run season highs, and with a home run and two walks Sunday afternoon is now hitting .300/.409/.631 on the season. His doubles are down but still good, but I’m sure the Indians don’t mind many of those being turned into longer balls.
It’s a great progression. His batting average stays above .300, but he make fewer outs due to more walks and keeps adding power. He’s now one of the elite hitters in the game, and the Cleveland fans saw a perfect example of why today.
The Indians beat the Angles 4-3.
