We have Gomber and Framber pitching today.
Austin Gomber leads the Cardinals against the Rockies and Tyler Anderson. Gomber owns a 2.98 ERA in his rookie season, but gets there despite a low K rate and a high walk rate. He throws a lot of curve balls, and gets good results. Anderson gets hammered by homers, with 26 long balls hit off him in 147 2/3 innings.
The Astros send Framber Valdez against the Angels and Felix Pena. Valdez makes his first start after a successful debut in which he threw 4 1/3 relief innings, allowing just one unearned run. He was a high K, high walk pitcher in the minors, but keeping the ball in the park mitigated the walks. Pena struck out 59 batters in 55 2/3 innings this season, but that has not made up for his high HR and walk rates.
