Games of the Day

Toronto sends rookie Ryan Borucki against former teammate J.A. Happ and the Yankees. Borucki, a true rookie, makes his tenth start. He doesn’t strike out many batters, but makes up for it by keeping his walk home run rates low. The latter will be test in Yankee Stadium. Happ is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA since joining New York, giving an injured rotation a boost. He allowed just eight hits in 19 innings.

The Brewers try to retake the second wild card slot as they send Jhoulys ChacĂn against the Cardinals and John Gant. Chacin pitched poorly against the Cardinals this season, 0-2 with an 8.59 ERA in three starts. He allowed 21 hits and 10 walks in 14 2/3 innings. Gant gives up many fewer hits at home this year, although his three-true outcomes on the road are slightly better.

Oakland goes for the sweep of the Astros and sole possession of first place in the AL West. Justin Verlander tries to stop Sean Manaea. Verlander pitches better on the road this season, 9-2 with a 1.74 ERA. Manaea is 6-0 in day games, with a 2.81 ERA covering ten starts.

Through June, the Houston gave the Oakland starters a lot of trouble. That turned around in the second half.

Finally, the Dodgers and Mariners finish their series with Clayton Kershaw facing Roenis Elias. Kershaw returned to form since the All-Star break, with two home runs and two walks allowed in 33 2/3 innings. Elias makes his second start of the season to go along with 12 relief appearances. He has not allowed a home run in 25 innings this season.

Enjoy!
