Triple Play

Jurickson Profar started an unusual ground ball triple play.

The Rangers turned a triple play during the fourth inning against the Angels on Thursday at Globe Life Park. Third baseman Jurickson Profar fielded a grounder hit by David Fletcher, stepped on third for a forceout, tagged Taylor Ward, who had been on third, and threw to Rougned Odor at second for a forceout.

It was the sixth triple play in Rangers history and the first since 2009.

I’m not sure if the runners thought it was caught for a line drive, as the runner who was at third appeared headed back toward the bag after Profar stepped on the base for the force of the runner at second. There is video at the link.

Despite the triple killing, the Angels lead the Rangers 6-3 in the fourth inning.
