Games of the Day

The Mets and Phillies continue their wild series with Noah Syndergaard facing Aaron Nola. Syndergaard gives up singles, but not much else. He allowed 97 hits in 95 innings, but just 19 walks and 23 extra-base hits. Nola owns a 2.28 ERA thanks to cutting his home run rate in half from last season.

Cole Hamels tries to continue his domination of NL teams as the Cubs face the Pirates and Trevor Williams. In four starts against NL teams this season, Hamels owns a 2.35 ERA, compared to 4.61 against AL opponents. Williams held the Cubs to one run in six innings in his other start against them this season.

Two teams in the thick of the NL post-season race meet in Atlanta as Kyle Freeland of the Rockies battles Sean Newcomb of the Braves. Freeland is on a nice run since the beginning of July. He posted a 2.45 ERA in eight starts, and while he walked quite a few batters, he gives up few hits and home runs. Newcomb suffered in the same time period, with his walks and home run rates very high.

Finally, the Astros and Athletics meet in Oakland with Charlie Morton facing Edwin Jackson. Morton left the game early in his only start against the Athletics this season, giving up three runs in 4 1/3 innings. Jackson owns a 1.80 ERA in four starts in Oakland this season. The Astros lead the A’s by two games in the NL West, so an Oakland sweep puts them in first place.

Enjoy!
