Sometimes a lineup looks like it was generated by the Lineup Analysis Tool (LAT). Monday’s Red Sox batting order lists the worst hitter eighth, a hitter in the third slot who is okay but not great, a high slugging percentage at the top, and a high OBP batting fourth. There are a lot of elements that do come through in the top LAT orders.
The fifth one down is pretty close, with three through six matching, the top two batters flipped, and seven and nine flipped. The Red Sox are doing a great job of getting the most out of their lineups.
