Adam Jones signed a one-year deal with the Diamondbacks for just $3 million:
Jones is likely to start in center field between Steven Souza Jr. in right and David Peralta in left, pushing Ketel Marte into a utility infield and outfield role.FoxSports.com
Jones can earn $2 million in performance bonuses for plate appearances: $250,000 for 250 and each additional 50 through 600. He would get a $250,000 assignment bonus the first time he is traded.
Jones comes off the worst year of his career, in which both his offense and defense declined, according to FanGraphs. He averaged 1.3 WAR over the last three seasons despite the decline, but it looks like teams are not willing to take the chance he’ll equal that number at age 33. I assume he took the deal hoping to have a great year in 2019 and earn a bigger contract over the winter.
