In the small sample size All-Star week, the majors produced just 7.31 runs per game. That is the lowest weekly average this season, and nearly tied with the All-Star Week from 2015. Two weeks ago there was an extreme outlier on the high side, and now one on the low side.
Overall, 2016 remains about 0.8 runs ahead of 2015 at the same point in the season. There are 0.4 more home runs per game, and 0.6 more walks per game to account for most of the offensive improvement. Strikeouts are up 0.8 per game, and due to that non-home run hits remain down. The more players strike out, the more they need to hit home runs to make up for the lack of other offense.
