ESPN just announced the starting position players for the AL and NL All-Star teams. I plugged the stats for the two lineups (through Monday’s games). Here how the Lineup Analysis Tool (LAT) sorts the AL players. The best lineup generates 7.07 runs per game. For the NL, I insert Matt Carpenter as the DH, since he is the best hitter not in the starting eight. The best lineup with that group generated 6.76 runs per game.
These numbers, of course would be what these hitters would do against the league over 162 games. Facing the best pitchers in the majors for a game, they tend not to do as well.
