Games of the Day

The Yankees try to take three out of four from the Indians as Masahiro Tanaka faces Carlos Carrasco. Despite the injuries and lack of support at times, Tanaka put together an impressive career so far. He is 31-14 in 61 starts, nine of his 16 no-decisions coming this season. He owns a 3.15 with a 1.03 WHIP, the latter very consistent across his three seasons. Carrasco is building toward his best season, with a 2.47 ERA in 11 starts. His weakness this year is the 10 home runs allowed in 69 1/3 innings.

The Mariners move Mike Montgomery back to the rotation as he faces the Royals and Dillon Gee. Montgomery made 16 starts in 2015, his rookie year, and pitched to a 4.60 ERA due to a low strikeout rate and 11 home runs in 90 innings. He made 30 relief appearances so far this season, raising his K rate and allowing just one home runs in 50 1/3 innings. Gee is getting hammered with home runs, 11 in 53 1/3 innings. Eight of those have been solo shots.

The last game before the break features the Diamondbacks at the Giants, with Archie Bradley battling Madison Bumgarner. Bradly lowered his ERA about a run compared to his rookie year of 2015, but it still sits high at 4.81. He reduced his walk rate and upped his K rate, so his progress is in the right direction. Only one of the ten home runs against him came in an away game. A win gives Bumgarner six straight seasons of at least 10 victories. He owns a 1.86 ERA at home this season, and only 4 of the 12 home runs against him came in San Francisco.

Enjoy!
