Games of the Day

The Brewers and Nationals play the annual 11 AM Independence Day game, and offer Junior Guerra against Max Scherzer. In his second year in the majors, Guerra looks good, coming into the game with a 3.25 ERA and a 5-1 record. He showed trouble on the road so far, however, with five of his seven home runs coming away from Milwaukee. Scherzer greatly reduced his walk rate with the Nationals compare to his time in Detroit. It makes me wonder if we might see a season from him in which he allows more home runs than walks.

Seattle and Houston are tied at 43-39 for second place in the AL West both one game out of the second wild card slot. Wade Miley leads the Mariners against Lance McCullers and the Astros. Miley comes off a terrible June in which he allowed 17 runs in 20 2/3 innings. He struck out just 12 in giving up 27 hits, good for a .314 BA. That rose to .357 with men in scoring position. His June was a combination of lots of balls in play and bad luck. McCullers appears to have traded walks for home runs in his sophomore season. He allowed 10 home runs and 43 walks in 125 2/3 innings in 2015, one home run and 29 walks in 46 innings this year.

Enjoy!
