Matt Harvey pitched poorly for the Mets, giving up 11 hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings, leaving his team down 6-0 to the Marlins. The bullpen, however, gave up no runs the rest of the game, walking two and striking out six. That gave the Mets offense a chance to come back. The scored in five straight innings, one run in the fourth and fifth innings, two each in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to beat Miami 8-6. Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d’Arnaud each collected three hits, d’Arnaud hitting a solo home run, Cespedes two doubles. The second of those was the game winning hit, driving home d’Arnaud, who had singled earlier. Cespedes, with 36 extra base hits, is now slugging .578.
The Mets are not a good comeback team. The are near the bottom of the majors in total comeback wins with 15, and this is the first time they came back from down four runs or more.
