Lynn to the Twins

Lance Lynn agrees to a one-year contract with the Twins.

Lynn had been one of a host of higher-profile free agents looking for a team with Opening Day less than a month away. But like Mike Moustakas, Carlos Gonzalez and Jonathan Lucroy in recent days, the starting pitcher ultimately found a deal to his liking.

Lynn, 30, was 11-8 with a 3.43 ERA as he rebounded to reclaim his spot as one of the St. Louis Cardinals’ most durable starters in 2017 after missing all of ’16 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

According to MLB.com, the deal is for one year, $12 million. It was reported that the Twins offered him two years, $20 million a few days ago. Lynn wisely took more money per year for a shorter time frame, so he can try next season in what might be a better market.

Lynn was durable in 2017, but his three-true outcomes did not come back to the levels he reached before surgery. I can see why teams would be wary to sign him long term. If he can turn in a great season for the Twins, that might change.
