With the All-Star game approaching, Peter Rowe looks at the paradox of declining ratings for baseball biggest events, while local games remain strong. He does, at one point, shows he doesn’t understand the relationship between ticket prices and attendance:
“Attendance today is way more than in the ’60s or ’50s,” said Freeman, who spent 27 years in baseball before retiring in 2009.
This increase is surprising given the rapid rise in ticket prices.
No, ticket prices rise because there is a strong demand for tickets, since attendance is rising! Teams don’t usually raise ticket prices if the park is empty.
