Three of the early games ended in blowouts, a game in which a team wins by five runs or more. The Mets sweep the Cubs with a 14-3 win. New York won two games in blow outs and two games by one run. Despite the two big losses in the series the Cubs are 27-7 in blowouts, easily the best record in the majors. The Mets are now 10-9.
Toronto spanked the Indians 17-1. Both teams do well in blowouts, the Indians 19-9 after the loss, the Blue Jays 15-7 after the win. Eight of the 17 runs came on three Blue Jays home runs.
The Washington Nationals beat the Reds 12-1, hitting six home runs and getting a partial no-hitter from Stephen Strasburg. The Nationals came into the day with the second highest winning percentage in blowouts, now 18-6. With both the Nationals and Mets winning, Washington maintains their five game lead in the NL East.
We’ll see if any other games develop into blowouts.
