Games of the Day

Yu Darvish returns from the disabled list to take on Jason Hammel as the Rangers try to score against the Cubs. Darvish pitched well in his three starts after returning from Tommy John surgery, striking out 19 in 15 2/3 innings. A healthy Darvish would certainly bolster the chances of the Rangers holding on to the AL West lead. Hammel is part of the Cubs starting pitching slump. Since the middle of June, even when he allows a low number of runs, he doesn’t go deep into the game.

Gerrit Cole also returns from the disabled list. He will try to get the Pirates even in their series with the Nationals as he faces Tanner Roark. Cole is pitching like an ace with a 2.77 ERA, but not winning like an ace as he is 5-4 in 12 starts. He allowed just three home runs in 68 1/3 innings. Roark improved two of the three-true outcomes this season, increasing his strikeout rate while lowering his home run rate. His ERA is higher than when he was a full-time starter in 2014, but his FIP is lower.

Enjoy!
