The Red Sox traded a prospect for Padres pitcher Drew Pomeranz:
The Padres will get minor leaguer Anderson Espinoza, one of Boston’s top pitching prospects, in the trade, sources told Bowden.
Espinoza is seasonal age 18 and blowing away batters in the low minors. He allowed two home runs in 134 1/3 minor league innings. That’s great for any level.
Pomeranz came into his own this season, posting a 2.47 ERA versus a 3.66 career average. There may be some luck or good defense involved in that number, however, as his FIP is 3.18 and his xFIP is 3.66. His BABIP allowed is just .240. That last number should go way up in a park like Fenway. He is a fairly extreme ground ball pitcher, so maybe he’ll be okay. It looks to me like the Red Sox want to win now.
