Batters came to the plate 67 times in the game between the Yankees and the Rays, and 28 of them struck out. That’s 43%. CC Sabathia struck out six in five innings, but used 95 pitches to do so. Chris Archer struck out 12 in 6 1/3 innings, but allowed all three runs, two of them on a Brett Gardner homer. That was enough for the Yankees to win 3-2. With that many Ks, there were only 11 hits in the game.
Sabathia keeps his up and down season going with his second good outing in a row.
