The Other Side of Game Scores

While there were a number of clunkers pitched Tuesday night, there were also three outstanding performances by starters. Ervin Santana and Clayton Kershaw turned in performances of 87, while Jon Lester posted an 85, each pitching nine innings. Santana wound up with a shutout, holding the Orioles to two hits and two walks. Kershaw allowed just one run in nine innings, striking out ten with no walks. That run came in the ninth inning, however, tying the game and sending the contest 13 innings, Logan Forsythe doubling in the winning run in the bottom of the inning for a 2-1 Dodger victory over the Cardinals. Lester threw a complete game. Like Kershaw, he allowed one run, did not walk a batter, and struck out ten. He allowed four hits.

So Tuesday had something for everyone, marvelous pitching and offensive outbursts.
