Games of the Day

Aaron Sanchez leads the Blue Jays against the Orioles and Chris Tillman. Sanchez owns a 2.95 ERA after four starts, despite not pitcher that great. His three true outcomes are meh, but opponents are just 2 for 18 with runners in scoring position. Tillman makes just his third start after returning from a shoulder injury. He struck out eight in 9 1/3 innings without a allowing a home run. Giving up long balls is sometimes a weakness for Tillman.

Another AL East game pits the Yankees against the Rays as Luis Severino takes on Erasmo Ramirez. Severino posted great strikeout and walk numbers so far, but allowed seven home runs in 42 innings, one fifth of his hits leaving the ballpark. Despite his low OBP allowed, three of those came with men on base. Ramirez worked mostly out of the bullpen this year, but in his one start he struck out five and walked none in five innings.

The Red Sox continue their series with the Athletics as Chris Sale faces Kendall Graveman. Sale’s streak of consecutive starts with 10 strikeouts stands at seven. He should have a good chance to stretch it to eight, as Oakland batters ranks second in the AL in strikeouts. Graveman sports a 2.50 ERA at home versus 5.09 on the road. His rates of allowing hits, walks, and home runs are not markedly different, however, which is a good example of how small sample sizes can skew numbers.

Enjoy!
