The Orioles try to end their four-game losing streak as they take on the Tigers in Detroit. Wade Miley faces Matt Boyd. Miley is having a fascinating season, with both high strikeout and walk totals, but a low 2.45 ERA. Despite a low ERA, he only earned two decisions, as he hasn’t always stayed in the game long. In two of his last three starts, he blew by the 100 pitch count in five innings. Boyd pitched much better at home this season, with a 2.61 ERA in Detroit compared to 5.30 on the road. For some reason, he does a much better job of limiting hits at home.
The first place Rockies take on the first place Twins in Minnesota with Kyle Freeland battling Phil Hughes. The rookie Freeland comes into the game with a 2.93 ERA, allowing just one home run in 40 innings. He has yet to allow a home run on the road, and the lack of long balls against him allows his high walk rate to do little damage. Hughes seldom walks batters, but allowed six home runs in 38 innings so far this season.
Eduardo Rodriguez and Lance Lynn carry sub-3.00 ERAs into the Red Sox game at the Cardinals. Rodriguez stepped up his K game this season, striking out 42 batters in 35 1/3 innings. He’s holding opponents to a .200 BA, but 14 of his 25 hits allowed went for extra bases. Lynn has been devastating at home, with just one of his six home runs allowed coming in St. Louis. That helped him to a 1.47 ERA at the park this season.
